Ethiopia is a visa-on-arrival country for holders of Ghanaian passports. Citizens of Ghana are not exempted from visa requirements when travelling to Ethiopia. The country adds up to the over 20 countries that Ghanaians can travel to by obtaining a visa on arrival at the border.
The difference between Visa-free entry and Visa-on-arrival is not significant and many Ghanaians consider visa-on-arrival countries as visa-free countries too. In fact, many websites have listed these countries under the list of countries Ghanaians can travel to without a visa. The only difference with a visa-on-arrival country is that a fee is paid for a visa to be stamped in the passport. Usually, these countries do not place strict visa requirements on Ghanaians, however, basic travel and immigration requirements have to be met to avoid any inconveniences.
Ghanaians visiting Ethiopia can also obtain an eVisa in advance on the Ethiopian eVisa portal at https://www.evisa.gov.et/. Applicants can also make an online application and pay the fees upon arrival at the airport in Addis Ababa.

Passport
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
Return or Onward Ticket
Ghanaians travelling to Ethiopia must hold a return or onward ticket. Persons holding one-way tickets may be denied entry.
Cash
Travellers should carry cash enough to cover their stay in the country. The amount of money you are to carry depends on the cost of living of the country you are visiting. A budget of $50 – $100 daily is recommended.
Accommodation
Immigration officers may want to know where you intend to stay. Aside from that, you are required to provide details of your accommodation when completing the visa application form and a landing card. Travellers travelling to visa-on-arrival countries are urged to make accommodation arrangements in advance and print the booking confirmation to show when they report to an immigration officer.
Tourist Voucher
Holding a tourist voucher or confirmation of tour package booked is a requirement and facilitates entry into a visa-on-arrival country upon arrival at the border. If you are visiting a friend or relative, a letter of invitation containing their address and telephone numbers is required instead.
The International Certificate of Vaccination
Ghanaians are required to carry The International Certificate of Vaccination, otherwise known as Yellow Card, when travelling. Ghana is among the countries at risk of Yellow fever transmission and as such a certificate to show a vaccination against the disease is required by Ghanaians.
Check Period of stay permitted
Taking note of the period of stay allowed as mentioned above is very important. The period of stay permitted could be different from what the immigration officer granted you. Crosscheck your visa to see the maximum number of stay indicated in the passport. Staying beyond the period indicated on your visa is illegal and considered overstay. Persons who overstay their visas may be prosecuted, fined, and/or forcibly removed.
